Payments have been made for the bills of fish sold by fishermen to MIFCO up to last Friday.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated in a message shared on Twitter tonight that with the funds disbursed on Sunday, payments have been issued for fish weighed by fishermen up to Friday. With this, the fishermen's "backlog" has been cleared, the President said.

Releasing payments within 48 hours of weighing the fish bought from fishermen is a presidential pledge of Dr. Muizzu. Although things are not proceeding according to that pledge at the moment due to the current financial difficulties faced by the government, the government has previously stated that it will work to achieve that goal once the fishermen's backlog is cleared.
