The Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy has opened the opportunity to apply for the resort representative position on the advisory committee for the protection and management of the South Ari Marine Park.
According to an announcement published by the Ministry regarding this matter, the business represented by applicants for this position must be a business active in South Ari Atoll and registered with the Ministry of Economic Development. Furthermore, the applicant for this position will represent the association or business they belong to, and the applying member must consult with all parties in the sector they represent and submit ideas to the committee on their behalf.
The Ministry stated that the applicant for this position will represent the association or business they belong to. Additionally, if the selected member leaves the committee or leaves the association or business they represent, the Ministry stated that a new announcement will be made to select another member from that sector. Only Maldivians can apply as a member.
Documents required for this position must be submitted via email to jobs@environment.gov.mv before 12:00 pm on Tuesday, 07 January 2025. If more than one party applies for the membership, the member will be selected based on the education and experience of the applicants, the Ministry stated.
The South Ari Marine Park is a protected area designated on 5 June 2009 under Article 4 of the Environmental Protection and Preservation Act of Maldives. This area was officially designated and publicly announced as the 'South Ari Marine Park Area' on 11 July 2019. The 'South Ari Marine Park Area' is designated as a 1-kilometer area starting from the outer reef of the islands between the northwest corner of the Rangali reef in South Ari Atoll and the north corner of the Dhigurah reef. Due to the richness of natural resources and biodiversity, this area is noted globally as a place where whale sharks can be seen year-round. Important marine life found in this area also includes protected turtles, rays, and shark species.
The advisory committee that protects and manages the South Ari Marine Park area consists of 5 sectors.

Guesthouse or Dive Centre Representative - 1 (One)
Representative from an NGO active in this area - 1 (One)
Fisheries Sector Representative - 1 (One)
Liveaboard Sector Representative - 1 (One)
Among the responsibilities of the committee, the Ministry stated, are advising on matters related to the management of the protected South Ari Marine Park area, advising on resolving issues encountered in managing the South Ari Marine Park area, advising on special events held in the South Ari Marine Park area, and advising on the collection of fees if a fee is levied on users of the South Ari Marine Park area. This work is not a remunerated position.
