A training course for operators of the "SeaVision Application" has been conducted in the Maldives.
The training course, conducted jointly by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the United States Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) from the 19th to the 23rd of this month, was participated by staff from MNDF and the Maldives Customs Service. A total of 21 participants completed the course, according to MNDF.
This training course was conducted to teach the essential skills required to effectively use the SeaVision application. As such, participants were taught how to use the SeaVision application, how to monitor maritime traffic using the tool, and how to identify vessel information. MNDF stated that participants were also taught how to identify suspicious vessel activities and how to obtain vessel information using various SeaVision tools.
The closing ceremony of the course was held yesterday at the Bandaarakoshi Auditorium. The ceremony was officiated by the Director of the Coast Guard's Training, Development and Research Department, Lieutenant Colonel Anwar Zahir, who presented certificates to the participants who completed the course.
Under the defense cooperation between the United States and the Maldives, training has been conducted previously with the assistance of expert SeaVision instructors. In February of last year, a SeaVision Executive Training was also conducted. In that training, the essential skills required to effectively use the SeaVision application were provided to operational commanders and officers working at the executive level. MNDF stated that with the help of this training, using the SeaVision application to identify incidents occurring in the maritime domain and the actions to be taken based on the information received, will make decision-making easier and facilitate many of the MNDF's operational requirements.
