President Dr. Mohamed has requested to renew the resolve to understand, respect, and protect the ocean that helps us all survive.
In a post made on his official X account in connection with World Oceans Day marked today, he stated that the health of this world begins with the health of the oceans. He described that for island nations like the Maldives, the ocean is not just a resource, but a main part of our lives. The President noted that Maldivians sustain their livelihoods through fishing, tourism, and other activities derived from ocean resources.
Noting in his post that due to climate change, oceans are warming, fish populations are changing, and beaches are eroding, he urged everyone to renew their resolve to understand, respect, and protect the ocean that helps us all survive on this World Oceans Day being marked today.
With the aim of raising awareness about the dangers facing the oceans, June 8 of every year is marked as World Oceans Day. World Oceans Day is a day marked by all UN member countries. Every year, a new theme is determined, and various activities are held at different levels. The theme for this year's World Oceans Day is "Wonder: Sustain What Sustains Us".
