It has been decided that the official celebrations for this year's Fishermen's Day will be held in Male'.
The government had previously decided to officially celebrate this year's Fishermen's Day in B. Thulhaadhoo. In preparation for this, a team from the Fisheries Ministry travelled to Thulhaadhoo in August, met with officials from the island council, school, and health centre, and held discussions regarding the arrangements for Fishermen's Day.
However, the Fisheries Ministry stated today that the official activities for Fishermen's Day have now been arranged to be held in Male'. The Ministry said this decision was made because it is not feasible to hold the event in Thulhaadhoo under the cost-cutting policy currently being implemented by the state.
Fishermen's Day is celebrated in the Maldives on December 10 every year. The day has been celebrated since 1989.
Last year's Fishermen's Day was also celebrated in Male'.
