Ocean Hunter Fisheries begins selling ice to all fishing vessels

Ocean Hunter Fisheries has opened up its services to begin selling ice to all fishing vessels.

The company previously sold ice only to yellowfin tuna processors and yellowfin tuna vessels. However, the company stated that it began selling ice to all vessels generally due to the decline in yellowfin tuna fishing.

The company stated that the ice plant is currently in full operation and that ice flakes can be sold to skipjack tuna fishing vessels today as well. An ice box is being sold at a rate of MVR 1,850. Ocean Hunter Fisheries stated that a box will contain 24 rubber half-barrels of ice flakes.

Due to the decline in yellowfin tuna fishing in Male' Atoll and difficulties in obtaining yellowfin tuna, the company began purchasing skipjack tuna from Raa Atoll on the 7th of last month. The company purchased fish from fishermen at a rate of MVR 16 per kilo (for fish over 1 kilo) with immediate payment.

Ocean Hunter Fisheries is a company that has been buying, processing, and exporting fish from fishermen for 12 years. Previously, the company only bought yellowfin tuna. However, the company stated that it began buying skipjack tuna due to difficulties in obtaining yellowfin tuna during this period, and that it will also buy small yellowfin tuna in its current operation in Raa Atoll.
