Ocean Hunter Fisheries Private Limited has started purchasing skipjack tuna from R. Atoll with instant payments.
Ocean Hunter Fisheries stated that although the company's factory is located in Himmafushi, they commenced a tuna purchasing operation today by stationing a vessel off the coast of R. Maduvvari, as fish are currently unavailable in the Himmafushi area. The company said it will buy fish (above 1 kg) from fishermen at a rate of MVR 16 per kilo, with payments made instantly upon purchase.
The vessel used by Ocean Hunter Fisheries to buy fish in R. Atoll was previously used for fishing, but it has been fully prepared for this operation. The company aims to load 28-30 tonnes of fish and travel to Himmafushi every 3 days to offload.
Ocean Hunter Fisheries is a company that has been buying, processing, and exporting fish from fishermen for 12 years. Previously, the company bought yellowfin tuna. However, due to difficulties in obtaining yellowfin tuna at this time, they have started buying skipjack tuna, and the company stated that they will also buy small yellowfin tuna during the ongoing operation in R. Atoll.
The company advised vessels wishing to weigh their catch to Ocean Hunter Private Limited to call 7786722 to make arrangements.
