The new FAD was deployed 5.6 miles northeast of Th. Buruni, according to the Fisheries Ministry.
The FAD number is K09V01.
Trolling FADs, established at a distance of between 3 to 6 miles around islands, are specialized for trolling and sports fishing. The trolling FADs are designed with a light visible from afar and a radar reflector to easily identify the location of the FAD.
The trolling FAD deployment program began last year. Under this program, the work of deploying trolling FADs in various regions of the Maldives was carried out last year as well. With the FAD deployed today, the number of trolling FADs included in the Maldives' FAD network has reached 16. The Fisheries Ministry states that a new trolling FAD will also be deployed in Laamu Atoll this week.
