President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government is working to facilitate the development of the new fish market, planned for the current local market site in Male' City, as a project funded by Japanese grant aid.
He made these remarks while speaking at a consultative meeting held last night with the residents of Henveiru in Male' City. Revealing that efforts will be made to rebuild the markets in Male', the President stated that a mixed-use market, including a modern fish market and a vegetable market, will be developed at the site of the current local market. He added that discussions have been held with the Japanese government to designate the project under Japanese grant aid, and that a technical team from Japan will arrive in the Maldives very soon to commence work on the project.
The President further stated that plans are underway to develop a special office building for the fishing industry in the area where the local fish market is currently located. Accordingly, the President noted that space will be provided there for fishing companies and the offices of fishermen's associations.
