MIFCO has stated that reports claiming the state fisheries company has been "banned" by the UK and European countries are fake news.
Responding to a question from this publication regarding a media report alleging that MIFCO was "blacklisted" and "banned" in the UK and Europe, a MIFCO official said that the claims in the report are "fake" or false. The official further stated that neither the government nor MIFCO has been informed of any blacklisting or banning of the company.
The Fisheries Ministry also stated that it is fake news. An official from the Fisheries Ministry who spoke to this publication assured that neither MIFCO, nor any other fish processing company in the Maldives, nor any of their products, have been "blacklisted" by any country or company in the world.
