The owner of the Nasru-2 fishing vessel, which has been operating out of Dh. Hulhudheli, has decided to sell the boat.
Nasru-2 is a vessel in good condition, measuring 27.6 meters in length and 7.8 meters in width, designed to store over 30 tonnes of fish. The owner has decided to sell the vessel for 5.5 million Rufiyaa. However, the owner stated that the price is "negotiable" for interested buyers.
The vessel is being sold with its two engines, GPS (with transducer), fishing poles, bait nets, and lights. The owner mentioned that interested buyers can call 9900590 or 7300593 for more information.
Farhad, who is leading the transactions for the sale of the vessel, said the boat is being sold because a new vessel is currently being built. Since the boat builder has stated that the new vessel will be completed by the end of December, Farhad said they intend to sell this boat before then.
Farhad noted that some people have been calling with interest in buying the Nasru-2 vessel. However, he mentioned that some parties have expressed difficulty in purchasing it because they cannot pay the full amount at once, and securing a loan for a fishing vessel is challenging under the current procedures.
He said the newly built vessel is designed with the latest modern technology, including an RSW system and a radar system. Farhad added that this is a large 116-foot vessel, designed to store twice as much fish compared to the previous boat.
"The current vessel is small and expensive to run, considering the need to load ice, catching fish from a bit further away, and the time spent waiting to weigh the catch. Because all these factors make it less ideal, we are selling it and changing to a larger vessel system, expecting the new boat to store about 80 tonnes of fish," Farhad said.
Farhad said that Nasru-3 is being built to accommodate local fishing trips with tourists. However, he noted that under the current laws and regulations, arrangements to obtain the necessary permits for this have not yet been made.
"That permit is given to safaris. We have tried very hard by talking with the ministries. Nothing has worked out yet. We had a plan ready where tourists could experience local tuna fishing for 5 days out of a 10-day package. We even went to fairs and promoted it. What we really want is to provide tourists with the opportunity to experience the tuna fishing that exists in the Maldives," Farhad said.
Nasru-3 is the 5th fishing vessel being built by Farhad's family.
