The "My Hulhumale" fishing competition, organized jointly by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Ooredoo Maldives to mark the 21st anniversary of the settlement of Hulhumale, has commenced.
The ceremony held at the Hulhumale Ferry Terminal Park to inaugurate the fishing competition was graced by Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam, who officially started the event. A total of 64 teams participated in this competition, including teams from resorts, government companies, ministries, and non-governmental organizations. Only one all-female team participated in the entire race, representing STELCO.
The teams that departed for fishing must return to the Hulhumale jetty by 10:00 pm tonight. Failure to enter the harbor by that time will result in disqualification from the race. The selection of the winning teams and the closing ceremony will also take place tonight at 10:00 pm in front of the Ferry Terminal Park. HDC has decided to award a cash prize of MVR 21,000 to the first-place team, MVR 5,000 to the person who catches the biggest fish, and MVR 5,000 to the best fisherman.
The "My Hulhumale" fishing competition showcases the enthusiasm Maldivians have for reef fishing. All teams departed with great excitement and courage. Moreover, every team is determined to win the race.
