The Maritime Training Institute (MTI) has announced that the Niyami Course-2 being conducted in R. Dhuvaafaru is proceeding successfully.
The course, which began in Dhuvaafaru on the 15th of this month, is being conducted in collaboration with the Dhuvaafaru Youth Movement to ensure that sea vessel operators are licensed and operate vessels in accordance with laws and regulations, and to provide the opportunity to complete this course while remaining on the island, MTI said. MTI also stated that a total of 35 participants, including launch captains, fishermen, and individuals interested in the field in R. Atoll, are participating in the course, which will continue until tomorrow.
The 30-hour course, which includes participants of various age groups, teaches maritime navigation, communication, safety and security at sea, first aid, maritime laws and regulations, and chart works. MTI also stated that participants are being taught how to handle and maintain vessels, as well as the safety standards that vessels must meet.
The Niyami Course-2 is a course that facilitates obtaining the license required to captain Category-B vessels that can travel up to 24 miles outside the atolls of the Maldives.
The Maritime Training Institute (MTI) is currently the fastest-growing training institute in the Maldivian maritime industry. The institute conducts several technical courses required to develop the maritime sector. The Niyami Course-2 is one of these courses. Although MTI's courses are centralized in Male' City, courses are also being conducted targeting the atolls. MTI is currently preparing to conduct the Niyami Course-2 in Gadhdhoo, Inguraidhoo, and Omadhoo as well.
