MTCC contracted to develop R. Maduvvari North Harbour

The project to develop the North Harbour of R. Maduvvari has been awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

At a ceremony held today at the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, State Minister Hassan Rasheed signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry. Deputy Managing Director Ahmed Shareef Abdul Rahman Yoosuf signed on behalf of MTCC.

Under this project, the Ministry stated that works will include dredging 11,609 cubic meters of the harbour basin and channel, dismantling 308 meters of the existing quay wall, constructing a 308-meter quay wall, a 184-meter breakwater, a 25-meter revetment, installing 1,550 square meters of harbour pavement, and installing harbour lights.

The project was awarded to MTCC for MVR 45.78 million, with the condition that it be completed within 360 days.

Maduvvari, with a population of 2,681, is an island heavily reliant on fishing and tourism. However, due to the limited space in the harbour, there are ongoing difficulties in mooring vessels. Furthermore, challenges are also faced in the embarkation and disembarkation of tourists. With the completion of the project signed today, these issues will be resolved.
