MTCC contracted to develop Mundoo harbour

The project to develop the harbour in L. Mundoo has been awarded to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

At a ceremony held yesterday at the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, State Minister Ismail Hameed signed the agreement on behalf of the Ministry. Deputy Managing Director Ahmed Shareef Abdul Rahman Yoosuf signed on behalf of MTCC.

Under this project, dredging operations of 22,413 cubic meters for the harbour basin and channel, dismantling 160 meters of the existing quay wall, constructing a 243-meter quay wall, a 249-meter breakwater, a 106-meter revetment, installing 1,215 square meters of harbour pavement, and harbour lights will be carried out.

The project was awarded to MTCC for MVR 51.03 million, to be completed within 400 days.

The harbour of Mundoo, an island with a population of about 300 people, is currently in a highly dilapidated state. Due to the small size and shallowness of the harbour, difficulties are being faced in embarking, disembarking, and mooring vessels. MTCC noted that with the completion of this project, the hopes the people of Mundoo have had regarding the harbour will become a reality.
