The government has awarded the project to develop the boat beaching area and picnic island in AA. Feridhoo to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
The project was awarded to MTCC during a ceremony held to meet the residents of Feridhoo, as part of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's ongoing tour of the inhabited islands of North Ari Atoll. The agreement was signed on behalf of MTCC by the company's Managing Director, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Saudhee. Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib signed on behalf of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure.
Under this project, the work includes reclaiming 2.20 hectares of land, constructing a 73-meter breakwater, a 384-meter rock boulder revetment, and a 280-meter rock boulder groyne.
The project, awarded to MTCC with a condition to be completed within one year, is valued at 54.35 million Rufiyaa.
With a population of 850, Feridhoo is a tourism destination with a widely expanding guesthouse business, and MTCC noted that the development of a picnic island will further expand the tourism business and bring economic development to the island. Furthermore, as the island's residents have been hoping for a boat beaching area since the development of the island's harbor began, MTCC believes that the completion of the project signed today will fulfill the residents' hopes and bring them ease.
