Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and Yanmar have jointly introduced a special refrigerated seawater system for the Maldives.
The Yanmar Refrigerated Seawater (RSW) system was officially launched at a special ceremony held today in GDh. Madaveli.
The ceremony held tonight to mark the official installation and commissioning of Yanmar's newly developed RSW system on a Maldivian fishing vessel was graced by the Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, Ahmed Shiyam. The ceremony was attended by the Managing Director of Yanmar Asia Singapore Corporation Limited, Jackson Tan, Managing Director of MTCC, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Saudhee, Madaveli Council President and members, and senior officials of government agencies.
During tonight's ceremony, a commemorative plaque was presented to Sodiq Hassan, the owner of the fishing vessel 'Kamana', which was the first to have the RSW system installed.
This RSW system introduced jointly by MTCC and Yanmar is the first such system introduced specifically for Maldivian fishing vessels and Maldivian waters. This system is an environmentally friendly product. As such, the CO2 refrigerant used in this product to cool seawater is an environmentally friendly chemical. The installation of the RSW system on vessels will bring many benefits to fishermen. In addition, the technology included in the RSW and the user interface of the control unit will make it easy for customers to learn how to use this system.
As introducing an RSW system is a costly endeavour, the Maldivian government has provided the foreign currency required by MTCC to carry out this project in the best possible way. Furthermore, the government introduced a special financing scheme last year for those who require the RSW system.
