Discussions have been held between China's Ministry of Natural Resources' First Institute of Oceanography and the Maldives Marine Research Institute regarding conducting research in the field of mariculture.
These discussions took place during a meeting held yesterday between Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam and a team from the First Institute of Oceanography currently visiting the Maldives.
During this meeting, extensive discussions were held to identify projects that can be jointly implemented by the two institutions to develop and advance areas related to the blue economy. In this regard, the Fisheries Ministry stated that ideas were exchanged on conducting mariculture training and research collaboratively.
To carry out these activities, the Fisheries Ministry stated that discussions were also held regarding the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Maldives Marine Research Institute and the First Institute of Oceanography.
