"Moodhu Fest 2026" held to mark World Oceans Day concludes

The Ministry of Fisheries has concluded the activities held under the name "Moodhu Fest 2026" to mark World Oceans Day.

"Moodhu Fest 2026" was inaugurated by the Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Marine Resources, Ahmed Shiyam. The Minister was joined by the Managing Director of HDC, Brigadier General (Retd) Ali Zuhair.

A large number of the general public participated in these activities held today at the Dhiraagu Beach area in Hulhumale.

Similar to the past two years, this year's festival also featured various water sports specially targeted at children. Stalls were also set up to provide children with various information about the ocean. This is an event held in collaboration with government institutions, associations, research agencies, environmental protection groups, and private companies. The purpose of this festival is to showcase the ongoing work related to oceans and reefs, and to raise public awareness through fun and informative activities.

To kick off the Moodhu Fest, a special nationwide activity titled "Everyone to the Sea" was conducted at 9:00 am today.

The "Everyone to the Sea" activity was carried out with people from all islands of the Maldives getting into the sea at the same time to play various water sports. Many islands participated in this activity.

A special diving activity named "Discover Bubble" and a coral planting activity targeted at children were also conducted.
