Under the Fisheries Ministry's ongoing project to identify the necessary modifications to bait wells to keep bait alive for longer periods, changes have been made to the bait well of the "Safeena" dhoni operating in GDh. Faresmaathodaa.
The Fisheries Ministry stated that the work to beach the dhoni and modify the bait well was carried out by the Ministry and a Japanese team last week.
The "Safeena" dhoni is the second vessel to have its bait well modified under this project. To commence this project or study, the bait well of the 'Kamana' dhoni from GDh. Madaveli was modified in January.
Under this project, the changes made to the bait wells of these two dhonis include improving water circulation and creating a system to remove dead bait without it sinking into the well.
The Fisheries Ministry stated that based on the results of this project, which is being conducted under Japanese grant aid, work is underway to formulate a project to provide assistance for modifying the bait wells of vessels in the Maldives.
