The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has urged vessels traveling through the K. Rihiveli channel to exercise caution during their journeys.

MNDF made this appeal as debris from the "Ocean Express" boat, which sank yesterday while traveling from Male' to L. Hithadhoo, is expected to be drifting in the area. MNDF has urged those traveling through the area to be cautious, and especially advised those navigating through this area at night to pay special attention.

The cargo boat, traveling from Male' to L. Hithadhoo with 12 crew members comprising 8 Maldivians and 4 foreigners, took on water uncontrollably and sank near Rihiveli Maldives Resort. The people on board the vessel were rescued and first taken to Sun Siyam Olhuveli Beach Resort, after which they were brought to Male' last night on Coast Guard Harbor Craft 113.
