Missing soldier from capsized Sivec landing craft found

MNDF Northern Area Command Coast Guard First Squadron divers have found one of the two people missing after a Sivec landing craft capsized in the Kaashidhoo Sea while travelling to Lh. Atoll.

MNDF stated that the Sivec "LC 308" landing craft capsized while travelling from Male' to Lh. Atoll, and there were six people on board at the time of the incident. This included two soldiers, one Maldivian, and three foreigners. Upon receiving information that the vessel capsized around 10:30 am today, MNDF located the vessel by sea and air, and worked to rescue the people travelling on it.

After receiving information that two people travelling on the vessel were missing, MNDF stated that Warrant Officer 2 Ali Hamid was found while search efforts were underway. MNDF stated, citing Lh. Naifaru Hospital, that Warrant Officer 2 Ali Hamid was already deceased when he was taken to the hospital after being found.

MNDF is continuing the search for the foreign national missing in the incident.
