The Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources has decided to conduct fisheries sector training programs in collaboration with island councils and has opened the opportunity for interested councils to host these programs.
The Ministry has decided to conduct 2 training programs targeting individuals active in the fisheries industry and those interested in joining the sector. In this regard, a diamondback squid fishing training program and a value-added fish product preparation and small business management training program are scheduled to be conducted in 2026.
The Ministry has requested island councils interested in conducting these trainings to submit a letter indicating the training they wish to conduct on their island before the close of business on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.
These training programs are conducted with the aim of familiarizing youth with the fisheries sector, increasing value-added fish products, finding additional markets, and introducing new types of fisheries to interested parties. Another objective of these programs is to increase women's participation in the fishing industry, improve the quality of fish products prepared at the island level, and train and familiarize individuals with preparing new varieties.
