The Ministry of Fisheries has announced its decision to conduct diamondback squid fishing training programs in collaboration with island councils.
The diamondback squid fishing training program is conducted by the Ministry of Fisheries, targeted at individuals interested in learning this type of fishing, to fully utilize the wealth of the Maldives' oceans and to develop diamondback squid fishing in the deep ocean areas of the Maldives.
This four-day training includes theory sessions and practical experience components. In this training, participants will be taught how to catch diamondback squid, start a business, maintain records, business types, marketing, and how to conduct market surveys.
In addition, sessions will be held on calculating business profits and losses, pricing products, food packaging and labeling, the importance of food packaging and the benefits of labeling, components included in food labels, and preparing value-added fish products.
The Ministry of Fisheries stated that island councils interested in conducting the diamondback squid fishing training program, which is targeted at individuals active in or interested in joining the fisheries industry this year, are requested to submit a letter to the Ministry before the close of business on Wednesday, 15 July 2026.
