The Ministry has given a deadline to remove a FAD deployed without permission off the eastern coast of HA. Uligamu.
According to an announcement published by the Ministry yesterday regarding this matter, as stated in Article 20 (a) of the General Fisheries Regulation of the Maldives, any type of FAD for fishing purposes within the maritime zones of the Maldives can only be installed by the Fisheries Ministry or a party assigned by the Ministry.
Therefore, the Ministry stated that the FAD established by a private party or parties approximately 0.7 miles off the eastern side of HA. Uligamu is an illegally established FAD.
The Ministry said that upon receiving information about the FAD, they worked to identify who was responsible. However, the Ministry's investigations so far have not been able to find out who established this FAD.
The Ministry has instructed the party or parties who established this FAD to remove it within 3 days from the date of the Ministry's announcement. The Ministry also warned that if the FAD is not removed within this period, the Ministry will remove it and destroy all parts of the FAD.
