The Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources has stated that despite current budget constraints, they want to make this year's Fishermen's Day the most fully celebrated one in recent history.
While the government has decided to celebrate this year's Fishermen's Day at a national level, it has been decided to hold the official activities in B. Thulhaadhoo. The Fisheries Ministry is currently planning the day's activities in advance and making the necessary preparations. As a first step, a team of technical officials, including State Minister of the Ministry Mohamed Muttalib, visited Thulhaadhoo on the 24th of this month. During the visit, official meetings were held with the island council, school, and health centre. In these meetings, discussions were held regarding the official arrangements for Fishermen's Day.
Regarding the trip, State Minister Mohamed Muttalib said that all the institutions they met with gave assurances of their cooperation in celebrating Fishermen's Day.
"The council was positive. Since the council and other institutions also very much want it to be a day held on the island, they agreed to do the work, give cooperation, and agreed to everything," Muttalib said.
While the government has decided to hold this year's Fishermen's Day in B. Thulhaadhoo, an official ceremony is scheduled to be held to celebrate this year's Fishermen's Day, just like in other years. Muttalib said that in addition to the official ceremony, they intend to hold various activities related to fishing. However, Muttalib said the Ministry is discussing to determine the activities to be held.
"Next will be discussing within the Ministry about the activities to be held on that day and finalizing them. It seems those things will be finalized and prepared within this week," Muttalib said.
Muttalib said that despite the current budget constraints, the Ministry wants to celebrate this year's Fishermen's Day very fully.
The government has been celebrating Fishermen's Day on December 10th of every year. This year will mark the 44th Fishermen's Day. Fishermen eagerly await this day as it is a day when the government shares its fisheries policies and planned future initiatives.
