Ministry Assures Continuous Efforts to Stop Illegal Fishing

The Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources has assured that the Maldives will continuously carry out efforts to stop illegal fishing.

In a message published on social media to mark World Tuna Day, the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources stated that it ensures efforts to sustainably manage tuna resources and maintain responsible fishing practices.

Furthermore, to safely provide tuna resources for future generations, the Ministry assured continuous efforts to promote pole-and-line fishing, implement decisions based on scientific findings, protect juvenile fish, and stop illegal fishing.

Sustainable tuna fishing is one of the most important pillars of the Maldives' blue economy, food security, and the livelihoods of fishing families. The Maldives' tuna fishery is certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and Fair Trade, and is rated as a highly trusted fishery by the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch.
