Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam met with the Vice Governor of China's Fujian Province, Wei Xiaokui, today.
The meeting, held today at the Fisheries Ministry, was attended by members of the visiting delegation from Fujian Province, the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua, and senior officials of the Fisheries Ministry.
During the meeting, it was noted that cooperation between the Maldives and China in the blue economy has been strengthening following the official visit of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to China. The Fisheries Ministry stated that discussions were also held on increasing technical training in fisheries and aquaculture, conducting joint maritime research, and increasing investment and cooperation in aquaculture and sports fishing ventures in the Maldives.
At the meeting, Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam expressed his sincere gratitude for the technical assistance being provided by Fujian Province to the Maldives Marine Research Centre to further strengthen the sea cucumber aquaculture program, and noted the increasing involvement of China's private sector in further developing the aquaculture sector in the Maldives.
