The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has announced that it will not purchase fish from vessels tomorrow.
MIFCO stated that since tomorrow is internationally observed as Workers' Day, the company's facilities and boats will not be purchasing fish. Furthermore, ice will not be sold from the company's various facilities and the ice plants operated by the company across different atolls.
MIFCO noted that to compensate for not selling ice tomorrow, facilities and ice plants will sell ice to fishermen on the following Friday. Typically, Friday is a closed day for MIFCO's facilities and ice plants, and fish weighing is not conducted on that day.
As this is a period of good fishing, the company is making arrangements to ensure that fishermen can weigh their catch and obtain fuel and ice from MIFCO facilities as easily as possible.
