President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the price of fuel sold to fishermen by MIFCO will be reduced starting tomorrow.
Announcing this decision at the official Fishermen's Day ceremony held in R. Dhuvaafaru, the President stated that this change in fuel price is a relief provided through an average adjustment to the current price at which fuel is supplied to fishermen. With this change, starting tomorrow, the price of fuel sold to fishermen by MIFCO will be cheaper by an average of 51 laari, and for those weighing more than three tonnes of fish to MIFCO, the price will be cheaper by an average of 71 laari, the President said.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that from December 14 onwards, fuel will be sold at 13.72 Rufiyaa to those weighing more than three tonnes of fish. The President also announced that fuel will be sold to the general public at 14.43 Rufiyaa.
With this decision to change the fuel price, starting tomorrow, fuel will be sold at 13.90 Rufiyaa to all parties weighing fish to MIFCO. And fuel will be sold at 13.72 Rufiyaa to parties weighing more than 3 tonnes of fish. In addition, the price at which MIFCO sells fuel to the general public has also been reduced. Accordingly, MIFCO will sell fuel to the general public at 14.43 Rufiyaa.
Fuel is being sold at these prices under an agreement made between MIFCO and Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM).
Establishing a convenient arrangement to provide petrol and diesel to the general public and fishermen at STO rates in at least one island in every atoll of the Maldives is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Accordingly, the government has commenced a project to establish fuel storage in every atoll. While the government states that this project will be completed by the end of next March, the very first station established under the project was opened yesterday. That station has been established in R. Dhuvaafaru.
