Keyolha has learned that the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has decided to reduce the price of fuel sold to fishermen from its facilities.
According to a reliable source who spoke to Keyolha, MIFCO made this decision in response to a complaint submitted to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu by the 'Keyolhunge Lobby' (Fishermen's Lobby), requesting a solution to the unavailability of fuel for fishermen at the company's facilities and the high cost of fuel. As part of the efforts to resolve this issue, assurances have been received that MIFCO will reduce the price of fuel sold to fishermen starting this September.
It is not yet clear by how much the price of fuel sold to fishermen will be reduced, nor the exact date it will take effect. An official comment from MIFCO on this matter has not yet been obtained. However, a reliable source has confirmed to Keyolha that MIFCO secured the opportunity to sell fuel to fishermen at a cheaper rate by arranging to procure fuel at a lower price than Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM).

During a meeting held on May 19 with the 'Keyolhunge Lobby', a civil society organization working to find solutions to the challenges faced by fishing families, the organization raised concerns with the President regarding the insufficient supply of fuel at MIFCO facilities and the high cost of fuel, requesting him to find a solution. As a solution, the lobby advised the President to arrange for MIFCO to import fuel and sell it to fishermen.
