The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has announced that it purchased the highest volume of fish in the past 15 months on the 12th of this month.
MIFCO stated that looking at the details of fish weighed at its facilities and collector vessels over the past 15 months, the highest amount of fish was weighed yesterday. According to MIFCO, 546 metric tonnes of fish were weighed yesterday.
With fishing improving and many vessels out at sea, the main hub for pole-and-line fishing, Kooddoo, has experienced the highest pressure. Due to the long queues for weighing fish at Kooddoo, MIFCO has launched a major operation to arrange for vessels to weigh fish without any restrictions. Under this operation, a boat has been brought in to export fish, and boats have been scheduled until the end of this month. MIFCO also stated that carrier vessels are being arranged. This is a measure taken to quickly clear space to weigh fish at the facilities at maximum capacity.
"This is a challenge MIFCO generally takes on during periods when fishing is exceptionally good. God willing, this company will do all the necessary work to ease the arrangements for fishermen to weigh their catch," MIFCO stated.
Under this operation, MIFCO has now rearranged the queue numbers of the vessels that had taken numbers to weigh fish at the Kooddoo Fisheries Complex (KFC). Accordingly, excluding the vessels weighing today, 18 vessels have been queued for next Saturday, and 6 vessels have been queued for Sunday. MIFCO stated that the fish from these vessels will be weighed by the end of Sunday.
MIFCO stated that the 7 vessels that have taken queue numbers to weigh fish at the Addu Fisheries Complex (AFC) will also be able to weigh their fish by the end of Sunday. Currently, there are no vessels in the queue at the Felivaru Fisheries Complex (FFC).
MIFCO noted that the company's hardworking employees are working day and night without sleep to carry out this operation.
