MIFCO ice plant burns down in fire at Feeali oil jetty

A fire that broke out on an oil boat at the F. Feeali oil jetty has burned down the MIFCO ice plant located on the island.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) stated that the fire on the oil boat was reported to the MNDF Central Area Command, Nilandhoo Fire Station around 09:30 today. Firefighters from the MNDF Central Area Command, Nilandhoo, and Kudahuvadhoo Fire Stations were dispatched to the scene, and the fire was extinguished around 10:35 today.

According to MNDF, the fire that started on the oil boat spread to three other boats and the Feeali ice plant, burning them down. It is reported that one of the boats destroyed in the incident was a recently built fishing vessel that had just started fishing operations.

This ice plant, which has been operated by MIFCO since September 1, 2025, has a capacity of producing 25 tonnes of ice. The ice plant has been burned beyond use in this incident.
