MIFCO holds discussions with CINEC to train employees in technical fields

Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has held discussions with Colombo International Nautical and Engineering College (CINEC) to initiate a new round of technical training opportunities for its employees.

The discussions took place during a trip made by MIFCO's CEO, Retired Brigadier General Farhath Shaheer, to Sri Lanka over the past weekend. According to MIFCO, extensive discussions were held with senior officials at the main CINEC campus regarding short-term and long-term courses, as well as practical experience opportunities required by the company.

Speaking at the meeting, which was also attended by the Maldivian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Masood Imad, the MIFCO CEO highlighted the long-standing relationship between CINEC and MIFCO. He noted that many of the individuals currently holding top positions in MIFCO's management and engineering sectors had completed their training at CINEC about 25 years ago. Therefore, the CEO expressed his desire to resume such training programs with CINEC to build a skilled workforce with a strong work ethic to serve in MIFCO's technical fields.

"It is absolutely imperative to begin the practical work today to build capable youth suited for tomorrow's needs. The company's future can only be brightened and sustained by prioritizing its employees," the MIFCO CEO stated.

As part of the ongoing efforts to train and develop the skills and standards of MIFCO employees, the meeting with CINEC explored available opportunities among the courses currently offered, as well as customized courses that could be designed to meet MIFCO's specific needs. MIFCO stated that discussions focused on creating opportunities in fields such as refrigeration engineering, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. Based on these discussions, an MOU is expected to be signed by both parties very soon, with practical training under the agreement set to commence within this year.

CINEC, which provides education and training opportunities in various technical fields related to maritime transport, is one of the largest institutions of its kind in Sri Lanka. The institution provides education and training opportunities to over 21,000 students annually.
