The company has stated that MIFCO facilities and boats will not purchase fish for the next three days.
The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) said that Thursday, which is Hajj Day, and Saturday, which is the day after Eid (Valhu Eid), have been designated as business holidays. Therefore, MIFCO stated that fish will not be purchased from its boats and facilities on those two days. Friday is generally not a day MIFCO purchases fish. Consequently, MIFCO will not purchase fish for the next three consecutive days. MIFCO added that the ice plants operated by the company will also not sell ice to fishermen during these days.
Before closing for these days, MIFCO informed the fishing vessels doing business with the company in advance. Generally, Hajj Day and Eid Day are not days when vessels go out fishing. Most vessels remain moored in the harbor.
