Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) disbursed over 27 million Rufiyaa to fishermen last week.
According to statistics published by MIFCO, the disbursements made from Monday of last week until yesterday were for fish sold by vessels to various MIFCO facilities and vessels from the 19th to the 24th of this month. Since Friday is a day MIFCO does not purchase fish, no money will be disbursed on Sunday under this plan.
From the 19th to the 24th of this month, 346 vessels sold 33.2 million Rufiyaa worth of fish to MIFCO. After deducting over 5.2 million Rufiyaa for ice and fuel bills taken on credit by the vessels, a total of 27,964,384 MVR (twenty-seven million, nine hundred and sixty-four thousand, three hundred and eighty-four Rufiyaa) was disbursed last week.
Looking at the disbursement period, the highest number of vessels weighed fish to MIFCO on the 20th of this month. On that day, 75 boats weighed fish. The highest volume of fish was weighed to MIFCO on the 23rd of this month. On that day, 56 boats weighed 403.62 tonnes of fish. That is 6.4 million Rufiyaa worth of fish. This is the highest volume of fish weighed to MIFCO on a single day in recent history. After deducting fishermen's credit for the fish weighed that day, 5.4 million Rufiyaa was disbursed to fishermen.
Looking at the previous week, MIFCO disbursed 14.8 million Rufiyaa for fish sold by 254 boats. Comparing the two weeks, the amount of money disbursed this week has increased by 15.2 million.
With the commencement of issuing payments within 48 hours of weighing fish to MIFCO, fishing activities have increased, and the number of vessels weighing fish to the company is increasing week by week.
