The state fisheries company, MIFCO, has decided to issue 10 tons of ice on credit to vessels that weigh fish to the company.
MIFCO stated that the decision to issue ice on credit was made to encourage fishermen to go out to sea. Accordingly, ice will be issued starting next Saturday.
"Every vessel that weighs fish to MIFCO can take up to 10 tons of ice on credit in multiple installments," MIFCO said.
Fishermen do not have to pay cash for the ice taken on credit from MIFCO. This is because when vessels that buy ice on credit weigh their catch, MIFCO will prepare the bill after deducting the money for the ice bought on credit.
Last Thursday, MIFCO also issued free ice to vessels weighing fish to the company. On that day, a total of 68 tons of ice was issued to 24 fishing vessels. This was also done to encourage fishermen to go fishing.
MIFCO is doing these things targeted at fishermen because recently some vessels have been hesitant to go out to sea. Some vessels are not going fishing due to crew members leaving, and because they are unable to make ends meet as fish catch has been poor in recent days. The weather has now improved, and fishing has taken a turn for the better.
