The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has begun recruiting staff to resume operations at the GA. Devvadhoo Ice Plant.
The Devvadhoo Ice Plant was previously operated by Fenaka Corporation. However, the facility has been out of operation for over a year. The ice plant was handed over to MIFCO following Fenaka's decision to cease operating ice plants as part of its cost-cutting measures.
MIFCO officially took over the ice plant on the 8th of this month. Today, MIFCO announced it is seeking employees to operate the facility. The company is looking to hire a cashier and a semi-skilled worker. The designated salary is MVR 9,979.50 for the semi-skilled worker and MVR 10,201.00 for the cashier. Allowances will also be provided for overtime and holiday work. MIFCO has requested interested candidates to complete the designated form and submit it before 12:00 hrs on the 17th of this month.
The Fisheries Ministry previously stated that it would cost one million Rufiyaa to bring the GA. Devvadhoo Ice Plant back into operation, and efforts were underway to secure the necessary budget. MIFCO has not yet disclosed an exact date for when operations will resume.
The GA. Devvadhoo Ice Plant was established during President Yameen's administration and entrusted to the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO). Handed over to MIFCO on November 12, 2014, the 25-tonne ice plant was officially opened and began providing services on April 18, 2016. At that time, it was operated by MIFCO. The ice plant was transferred under Fenaka during the MDP administration, following policy changes. Even when it was handed over to Fenaka, its operations were running smoothly.
The Fisheries Ministry has stated that the other three ice plants operated by Fenaka in GA. Atoll have also been handed over to MIFCO. These are the Gemanafushi, Dhaandhoo, and Kolamaafushi ice plants.
