The National Meteorological Department has resumed using the Doppler Weather Radar.
The Met Office stated that after a long period of unresolved technical issues, the radar has been repaired and brought back into operation today.
The Doppler Weather Radar utilizes the latest technology used for weather observation in developed countries around the world. Using this radar, real-time weather information within a radius of approximately 250 kilometers from Hulhule can be detected.
With the help of the Doppler Weather Radar, information such as the area where it is raining, the intensity of the rain, and the direction and speed of rain clouds can be observed, allowing for the estimation of the time a cloud will reach a specific area (nowcasting). Additionally, wind information at different atmospheric layers can be detected.
"This will be very important information provided for the safety and security of air travel, in addition to weather forecasting," the Met Office stated.
The Met Office said that work is currently underway to repair the Doppler Weather Radar for long-term use, expand the radar network by installing radars in the north and south of the Maldives, and strengthen the weather observation and early warning systems.
