The Marine Police have conducted an information programme for the employees of Kuramathi Island Resort regarding maritime safety and security.
The programme, held on October 26, provided information to the resort's vessel operators, water sports staff, divers, and security personnel. A total of 35 employees from the resort participated in this programme.
During the programme, information was provided on matters to consider when loading passengers and cargo onto sea vessels, and checks to be made prior to departure. Furthermore, methods to ensure safety and security while at sea, and procedures to follow in the event of a maritime incident, were explained.
Additionally, information was provided regarding maritime transport laws and regulations. Participants were also urged to pay attention to specific matters when serving tourists and to provide information to tourists in order to reduce maritime incidents.
From the 19th to the 20th of this month, the Marine Police also held information sessions in Ukulhas, specifically targeted at excursion and guesthouse operators, on preventing maritime incidents. These sessions, conducted jointly by the Ukulhas Police Post, Marine Police, and the Island Council, provided information on measures to prevent maritime incidents and procedures to follow in the event of a vessel engine failure at sea. First aid procedures for medical emergencies were also taught. Furthermore, information was provided regarding maritime transport laws and regulations.
In addition to this, an information session on maritime safety and security was conducted for the students of AA. Ukulhas School.
