March Exports: Frozen Skipjack Tuna Tops the List

Customs statistics reveal that frozen skipjack tuna was the highest exported commodity from the Maldives in March.

According to the import-export statistics published by Customs yesterday, goods worth MVR 204 million were exported from the Maldives in March this year. The highest volume of exports consisted of fish and fish products. In this regard, MVR 115 million worth of frozen skipjack tuna, MVR 13 million worth of frozen yellowfin tuna, and MVR 4 million worth of frozen yellowfin tuna loins were exported in March. Therefore, skipjack tuna was the most exported item in March. Skipjack tuna was also the most exported item in February this year, with MVR 114 million worth of frozen skipjack tuna exported that month.

Additionally, MVR 46 million worth of processed or prepared fish was exported. Furthermore, MVR 7 million worth of fish meal and various fish parts (not for human consumption) were exported.

In March, the highest volume of fish was exported to Thailand. The United Kingdom was the second-largest export destination, while Vietnam was the third-largest.
