President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the natural beauty bestowed upon the Maldives can only be safeguarded by protecting and sustaining biodiversity.
The President made these remarks in a social media post shared to mark the International Day for Biological Diversity, which is being celebrated globally today. In his message, he noted that natural beauty is the greatest blessing bestowed upon the Maldives. He further stated that this invaluable blessing can only be protected by conserving and sustaining biodiversity.
The theme designated for this year's International Day for Biological Diversity is "Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Energy".
Whether looking at the land or the sea, the Maldives is a country with a naturally beautiful environment. It is particularly rich in marine life. Therefore, it is crucial to act in a way that does not harm the marine ecosystem while fishing and undertaking economic activities in the ocean. Any action that damages marine life will pose significant challenges to the fishing industry, which will directly and indirectly impact the Maldivian economy.
