Maldives-China: Discussions held on ways to cooperate in the fisheries sector

Discussions have been held to explore ways to collaborate with China's Sichuan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs under the free trade agreement between the Maldives and China.

These discussions took place during a meeting held today when a delegation from the Sichuan Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs visited the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources.

The delegation participating in today's meeting at the Fisheries Ministry expressed interest in increasing the ongoing cooperation for the Maldives' fisheries and aquaculture industry. Specifically, the delegation expressed interest in cooperating in areas such as sharing modern fisheries technology, capacity building, and information exchange.

During today's meeting, the Fisheries Ministry and the Chinese delegation expressed gratitude for the strengthening relationship between the Maldives and China. They also appreciated the ongoing cooperation through the free trade agreement and other bilateral platforms, reaffirming the importance of providing mutual support.

Sichuan Province is one of the strongest provinces economically in the western region of China. The province's GDP is approximately 7 trillion Yuan. As the province's economy is based on agriculture and aquaculture, it plays an important role in China's rural development and food production sector.
