Maldives and Saudi Arabia have held discussions to enhance cooperation between the two countries to develop the blue economy in the Maldives.
These discussions took place during a courtesy call paid by the Saudi Ambassador to the Maldives, Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani, to the Minister of Fisheries, Ahmed Shiyam, yesterday.
The meeting mainly focused on what can be done to further advance the Maldives' fisheries sector. In this regard, the two extensively discussed Saudi Arabia providing further cooperation to the Maldives to develop the fisheries sector and the blue economy.
Speaking at the meeting, the Saudi Ambassador assured that Saudi Arabia will always remain committed to assisting the Maldives. He assured that Saudi Arabia will always provide cooperation through the Saudi Fund for Development, specifically highlighting the development of the M. Mulah and GA. Kooddoo ports and cold storage facilities, as well as further cooperation in trade, research, and conservation in the Maldives. The Ambassador concluded his remarks by noting that it was a very productive meeting.
During the meeting, Minister Shiyam expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by Saudi Arabia to strengthen and advance the Maldives' fisheries sector.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Fisheries and senior officials from the Saudi Embassy participated in the meeting.
