Discussions have been held regarding bringing the HDh. Makunudhoo ice plant into operation.
These discussions took place during a meeting held today between HDh. Makunudhoo councilors and the State Minister of the Fisheries Ministry, Mohamed Muttalib.
The Fisheries Ministry stated that during this meeting, discussions were held on bringing the Makunudhoo ice plant into operation and establishing a trolling FAD near Makunudhoo.
The government took over the HDh. Makunudhoo ice plant in early March. At that time, the Fisheries Ministry stated that the government had taken over the ice plant and started the work to bring it into operation. However, no details were provided.
This is an initiative started by the Ministry as part of the government's efforts to resolve the difficulties faced by northern fishermen in obtaining ice.
The ice plant in HDh. Makunudhoo was established and began supplying ice to vessels in February 2018. The ice plant in Makunudhoo, an island with extensive fishing activities, was established by contracting a company called Sea Treasures Maldives. At that time, the operation of the ice plant was also handed over to that company.
This ice plant is established at the cross jetty on the northern side of Makunudhoo.
