The establishment of the L. Maavah ice plant has been awarded to the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).

The agreement to award this project to MIFCO was signed during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's ongoing tour of the islands in L. Atoll. Minister Ahmed Shiyam signed the agreement on behalf of the Fisheries Ministry, and Project Unit Manager Mohamed Shameem signed on behalf of MIFCO.

Under this agreement, a 10-tonne ice plant and a 20-tonne ice storage facility will be established in Maavah. Once the work is completed and the ice plant is brought into operation, it will provide great convenience to the fishermen of Maavah and the surrounding L. Atoll region. It will also particularly benefit reef fishermen operating in this area.
