L. Maabaidhoo Council has opened the opportunity to participate in the fishing tournament held annually on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
This fishing tournament is held to foster and maintain friendship and unity among the residents of Maabaidhoo, and to familiarize the youth of the island with sports fishing. The council stated that since Maabaidhoo is an island with opportunities for sports tourism development, and as land is being leased for local tourism and work is commencing, creating a group of people active in sports fishing is also an objective of holding the tournament. This year's fishing tournament is the third such event organized by the council. The tournament is scheduled to be held on the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr in the year 1447, from 15:00 to 21:00.
The council stated that the participation form and rules for the fishing tournament will be available on the council's Facebook page and community group. Teams wishing to participate are requested to complete the application form and submit it to the council before 13:00 on March 16, 2026. The council also noted that each team must pay a participation fee of 250 Rufiyaa.
Each team will consist of a maximum of 7 participants or a minimum of 4 participants, and the vessel operator will also be included as a team member, according to the council. Any resident of the island over the age of 18 who has completed school, of either gender, can participate in the tournament. In addition, spouses and children of individuals registered on the island can participate if they are over 18 years old. The tournament rules also state that two individuals from outside the island can be included in a team.
