Lost Hathifushi pole-and-line FAD redeployed

The lost FAD off HA. Hathifushi has been redeployed.

The Fisheries Ministry's technical team redeployed the FAD today in its previous location, 20 miles west of HA. Hathifushi. The number of the redeployed pole-and-line FAD is B08D02.

During the Fisheries Ministry's ongoing trip to the northern atolls, another lost buoy in HA. Atoll was also redeployed yesterday. Yesterday's FAD was deployed 17 miles north of HA. Kelaa. That FAD number is B09D01-02.

Pole-and-line FADs are specially deployed for pole-and-line fishing or skipjack tuna fishing. It is legally prohibited to conduct other types of fishing in the area surrounding these FADs in a way that obstructs pole-and-line fishing vessels.

Looking at the Maldives' FAD network, there are currently 65 pole-and-line FADs. Out of these, 4 FADs are deployed in HA. Atoll.

The Fisheries Ministry is carrying out the work of redeploying lost buoys under a specific policy. The Fisheries Ministry has previously stated that installing a buoy costs approximately 500,000 Rufiyaa. Redeploying lost buoys faces challenges because the work is currently done from only one center, and the cost of redeployment is high. To expand the FAD network and resolve the challenges faced in quickly redeploying lost buoys, it is noted that preparations are underway to establish buoy preparation centers in the north and south of the Maldives.
