Landhoo ice plant project expected to be completed by the end of this year: President Dr. Muizzu

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he hopes the ice plant being established in N. Landhoo will be completed by the end of this year.

He made this statement during a special meeting held with the residents of Landhoo today, as part of his ongoing visit to N. Atoll.

Highlighting the ice plant project while sharing updates on development projects in Landhoo, the President said the physical work of the project was delayed because it is funded under an environmental sector fund, which required time to obtain certain permits. However, he assured that since the permits have now been obtained, physical work will commence in the coming days. The President also expressed hope that the ice plant will be completed by the end of this year.

The Landhoo ice plant is being established under a project to build solar-powered ice plants in four inhabited islands. Under this project, a 15-tonne ice plant with a 30-tonne storage capacity is being established in Landhoo.

As part of the government's efforts to achieve the Maldives' Net-Zero Carbon 2030 target, community ice plants will be established in Th. Buruni, Th. Madifushi, and Th. Vilufushi, in addition to N. Landhoo. The project was awarded to China's "Instec Import and Export Company Limited" on May 9, 2023.
