The land registry for the designated plot to build a Fish Aggregating Device (FAD) manufacturing center in Sh. Funadhoo has been handed over to the Fisheries Ministry.
During a meeting held at the Fisheries Ministry today, the registry was handed over by the President of the Funadhoo Council, Ahmed Ibrahimfulhu. State Minister Mohamed Muttalib received the land registry on behalf of the Ministry.
The Ministry stated that discussions were held during the meeting regarding expediting the completion of the FAD manufacturing center and the ice plant planned to be established in Sh. Funadhoo.
The Funadhoo FAD center is being established in the north in accordance with the government's decision to set up FAD centers in the north and south of the Maldives. The council has provided a 10,000 square foot plot of land for the construction of this center for an indefinite period, and the land has been allocated free of charge. This is the first FAD manufacturing center to be established outside of Male'.
The government decided to establish FAD manufacturing centers in the north and south of the Maldives as a solution to the challenges faced in deploying FADs across different regions of the country, since there is currently only one FAD manufacturing center. The southern FAD center is planned to be established in GDh. Vaadhoo.
The FADs currently being deployed in various regions of the Maldives are being manufactured at the center established in Hulhumale', with technical assistance from the FAO.
